Floodlighting and Electrical Services is an established business with over 40 years’ experience installing high quality sports floodlighting solutions across the UK. Whilst we are the leading floodlight business in Wales, like Banbury United Football Club, Floodlighting and Electrical have ambitious plans to move up the leagues and challenge the ‘big boys’, as we embark on our growth plans for the England and the UK.
With that in mind, we were delighted to be given the opportunity to work with the Club and provide them with the upgrade they needed and well deserved. We realised at the start that we would become part of their history, when we were told that the stanchions were first installed in 1966 and officially ‘opened’ by Sir Stanley Matthews. But, as we do with all projects, we work with the Club, understand the culture and its history and make sure we deliver on all of the key objectives stated.
Of course, the result is about high-quality match level lighting, but our job is to provide the best experience possible for the spectator, the fan and where possible a positive impact on the environment. The project included a full structural investigation, resulting eight new concrete foundations for the new columns. We then replaced the 24 old lamps with 16 new LED floodlights, with 2 floodlights per column. This will not only achieve the FA approved 250 lux level for tier three but will also reduce the grounds energy use by 52%. So, a safe, secure, quality experience and good for the planet!
During the initial discussions, we were informed of the plans to move to a new site in the next few years, so it was important we built future developments into the design and product specification. It was also important to ensure the installation had the ability to be improved, should the Club move up a few leagues and require higher lighting levels. The result, a complete new system of columns and floodlights that can be removed from the Banbury Plant Hire Stadium and reinstalled at a new facility, whenever that is needed. We have also ensured that additional floodlights can be added to the current system, should the club need higher lux levels to conform with the higher league status requirements.
The future certainly looks ‘bright’ for Banbury United Football Club and it’s been a privilege to have been a major part of the ‘floodlighting’ project and the future development of the Club. From all at Floodlighting and Electrical, we wish you a successful season and a great future.
